為迎接2009年高雄世運會、營造健康環境，近年來高雄市政府積極建構出一套優質安全、多樣化且獨一無二的都會自行車系統。這個系統包括「旗津環島踩風自行車道」、「愛河連接蓮池潭自行車道」、「後勁溪自行車道」、「西臨港線自行車道」、「博愛世運大道」、「美麗島大道」、「前鎮河自行車道」，範圍涵蓋都會精華區與各重要觀光景點，同時還有民權、民生林蔭園道，以及捷運沿線與中正幹道，總長度超過100公里！兼具運動休閒與城市景觀功能，為高雄市締造兼具節能、環保與健康有氧的道路系統。
In order to welcome the World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung and create a healthy environment, Kaohsiung City government has actively constructed a high-quality, safe, diverse and unique urban bike system in recent years. This system includes "Cijin Oceanview Bike Path", "The Bike Path System Connecting Love River and Lianchihtan", "Houjin Creek Bike Path", "West Side Harbor Line Bike Path", "Bo-Ai Landscape Roadway", "Formosa Boulevard" and "Cianjhen River Bike Path". The range of the system covers prime areas of the city and important sightseeing scenic spots. It also covers MinChuan and MinSheng Green Garden Boulevards, the areas along the Rapid Transit lines and ChungCheng artery. The total length is more then 100 kilometers! The system combines sports, leisure and cityscape establishing a power-saving, environmentally-friendly, healthy road system.
